Woman seriously injured, dog dead in Whitby house fire

A 54-year-old woman is in hospital with serious burn injuries following a fire at a townhouse in Whitby.
Crews were called to an active fire at Eric Clarke and Dryden Boulevard, near Taunton Road West and Thickson Road North, early Tuesday morning.
Whitby Fire officials say the woman was transported to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto to be treated for burns.
Police say a dog died in the fire. It is not clear if the dog belonged to the woman.
The blaze was quickly put out by firefighters and crews have ventilated the area.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate, but Durham police say the fire did not seem suspicious.
