Police have released photos of two people suspected to be linked to the fatal shooting of a man outside a pawn shop in Oshawa last year.
In a Wednesday update, Durham Regional Police say investigators combed through hundreds of hours of video surveillance footage and identified suspects with ties to a stolen truck that they believe was involved in the killing of 30-year-old Michael Nigris nine months ago.
Officers responded to the shooting at a plaza parking lot in the area of King Street West and Park Road around 8:25 p.m. on March 30. Police say Nigris was leaving the store when he was shot.
He was found by officers with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have yet to determine a possible motive and say they do not believe the attack was targeted.
The victim’s sister was on hand for Wednesday’s update and says it will never get easier for the family to talk about her brother’s life and tragic death.
“This is not going to be a cold case,” says Katherine Kollaard. “We will exhaust every resource that we have to get justice.”
Police say the suspected shooter fled in a stolen black Ford F150 Raptor that was found a short time later on Dundee Avenue in Oshawa. Officers searched the area where the truck was found but were unable to find the suspect.
Investigators say a second suspect has ties to the stolen truck and both suspects have ties to the Lawrence Avenue West and Keele Street area in Toronto. Photos and police descriptions of the pair have been released.
