11th case of measles in Ontario confirmed in Milton

Halton Region Public Health says it is investigating a confirmed case of travel-related measles in Milton.

Public health officials say people may have been exposed at three separate medical clinics earlier this month: Milton Trails Medical Clinic on Derry Road West on April 2 from 12:45 to 4 p.m. and on April 5 between 2 p.m. and 4:40 p.m., and Milton District Hospital Emergency Department on Bronte Street South on April 4 from 1:33 p.m. to 7:06 p.m.

Visitors to these locations during those periods are asked to monitor themselves for any possible symptoms for the next 21 days. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, small, white spots on the inside of the mouth, and a red blotchy rash that first starts on the face and spreads down the body, arms, and legs.

Officials say if you need to see a doctor, call ahead to the office, walk-in clinic or emergency department to allow health care staff to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and protect others.

This is the 11th confirmed case of measles in the province of Ontario with three in Toronto and single cases in Windsor-Essex, Middlesex-London, Brandt County, Hamilton, Peel, York and Durham regions. All but one of the cases has been attributed to travel.

Ontario recorded a total of seven cases of measles in all of 2023.
