Man wanted for sexually assaulting woman in Markham: police

Police are searching for a man after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted while walking her dog in Markham.

York region police say the woman was walking her dog along a pathway between Riverwalk Drive and Boswell Road just after 7 p.m. on May 4.

A man approached the woman and asked to take a photo of her dog. He then asked if he could take a picture with her holding the dog.

“In the process of doing so, the suspect touched the victim in a sexual manner without her consent,” police said in a release, adding the woman fled the scene and contacted police.

Despite a search of the area, police were unable to locate the man. However, they believe he is familiar with the area as he has been previously spotted there.

The suspect is described as male, South Asian, 20 to 30 years of age, five-foot-seven with a thin build and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and grey/white shoes. Police say he may have been holding a can of beer at the time of the incident.
