Man charged in numerous break-and-enter, carjacking incidents in Scarborough

A 32-year-old man is facing numerous charges in connection with a series of carjackings and break-and-enter incidents in Scarborough back in May.

Police say they were first called to the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Kennedy Road just before 6:30 a.m. on May 30 for reports of a carjacking. Investigators say a man wearing a mask approached another person who was sitting in their vehicle and demanded they hand over the keys before fleeing the scene with the car.

The next day, police say they responded to four more incidents in the same area beginning with an attempted break-and-enter around 11:30 a.m. Police believe the same man was responsible for two more attempted break-ins 15 minutes apart. In each case, the suspect fled the scene empty-handed.

Then just after noon, police allege the same man broke into a residence and took a set of car keys before driving away in the victims vehicle.

On June 4, police arrested Dustin Legault-Knapp and charged him with robbery with an offensive weapon, robbery, weapons dangerous, disguise with intent, break and enter with intent, possession of property obtained by crime and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

On July 11, police added charges of break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle and another count of failing to comply with a probation order.

Investigators say both vehicles stolen were eventually recovered.
