From Afghanistan to Canada: Shafai breaks barriers.

Pictured here competing in the CCAA National Championships in Windsor, Shafai moved from Afghanistan to Belleville with her athletic aspirations in mind.

Roya Shafai competed for Afghanistan in Judo until her right to train was stripped away with the Taliban’s resurgence.

Now working on her diploma at Loyalist College, she plans to create a safe space for other women in need.
