Police identify man, 34, killed in Scarborough shooting

One man is dead following an early morning shooting in Scarborough Thursday. As Catalina Gillies reports, it becomes Toronto’s 83rd homicide of the year.

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has identified a man who was fatally shot in Scarborough.

Officers say a man was walking in the Eglinton Avenue East and Markham Road area in Scarborough Village just after midnight on Thursday when he was struck by bullets fired from a moving vehicle.

When first responders arrived they found the man suffering from gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were performed, and he was rushed to a trauma centre, where he died from his injuries.

He has been identified as Adam Christopher Moncrieffe, 34, of Toronto.

Investigators released photos of a vehicle they say was driving around the neighbourhood before the shooting and was later seen fleeing southbound on Markham Road. It’s described as a new model white Honda CRV with dark rims.

A witness who lives in a nearby residential building tells CityNews the sounds of gunshots awoke her suddenly early on Thursday morning.

“It was very loud. Very loud. I wake up… [it sounded] like a big gun,” the woman said.
