They did everything together, including their very last outing to a favourite aunt. Now the two best friends who died in a horrific collision at Islington and Finch on the weekend will do one last thing together – find their final rest. The families of Monique McKnight and Aleisha Ashley have decided to hold a funeral for both in the same church at the same time.
The pals will be remembered at the Faith Pentecostal Church on Jane St. next Tuesday at 10am. They’ll be laid to rest at Beechwood Cemetery. The short lives of the girls came to a sudden end early Saturday when a speeding stolen car driven by an underage Chevon Josephs slammed into the taxi they were riding home in. Sixteen-year-old Monique died at the scene. Aleisha’s family made the tough decision to take her off life support on Monday. The S.I.U. is still probing the incident, trying to determine if a police chase played a part in the crash.
The families of the lost teens know the funerals will be a sad affair, but they don’t want to lose the spirit of what the pair represented. They plan to make the event a celebration of the “lives of two peas in a pod.”
