Al Gore the third, son of former vice-president Al Gore, was arrested on suspicion of drug possession in California early Wednesday morning after police found pot and prescription drugs in his hybrid car.
Sheriff’s deputies pulled the 24-year-old Gore over for speeding after he was caught driving his Toyota Prius 160 kilometres an hour on the San Diego freeway. When deputies approached the vehicle they claimed to smell marijuana and searched the car. They found about 28 grams of pot (just under an ounce) along with Xanax, Valium , Vicodin and Adderall.
Gore, whose father was vice president to Bill Clinton in the 90’s and more recently frontman for the Academy Award-winning environmental documentary ‘ An Inconvenient Truth‘, was being held in the men’s central jail in Santa Ana on $20,000 bail on charges of illegal possession of marijuana and prescription drugs, said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino.
“He does not have a prescription for any of those drugs,” Amormino said.
Al Gore the third is the youngest of Al and Tipper Gore’s four children and their only son. He was arrested in December 2003 for marijuana possession while studying at Harvard and completed a substance abuse program to settle those charges.
