This article is more than 5 years old.
Ten-year-old Jenna Sartoretto chalks her hand grips, stares at the steel bar in front of her, takes a deep breath, jumps up and tackles the uneven bars.
Her name may not ring a bell but remember it, because this competitive gymnast is talented.
“She’s incredibly aggressive, she’s really a good role model for some of the other athletes in how to attack an event,” says her coach, Toni Norman, at Futures Gymnastics.
Six days a week, the young girl practices uneven bars, the balance beam, floor and vault. She starts her day at Futures Gymnastics in Mississauga at 7 a.m. At noon she leaves for school and in the evening is back at the gym. She also travels for competitions going to the United States, Asia and Europe.

Back at the gym, Jenna focuses her attention on honing new skills and perfecting old ones. She gets on the balance beam, leaps, rolls and does a handstand. You can tell by her level of maturity and by watching her routine, she’s focused on the future, one she hopes involves the Olympics.
