Body of missing GMP Capital co-founder found in Lake Joseph

The body of successful Bay Street investment banker Brad Griffiths has been found in Lake Joseph five days after he was reported missing.

The 55-year-old co-founder of GMP Capital was last seen in the water around 12:43 p.m. Monday.

The Ontario Provincial Police said divers found his body around 6:20 p.m on Saturday.

Friends told police he was seen falling off his boat and struggling in the water.

Griffiths had a successful 30-year career in the investment banking business, brokering deals for several large Canadian investment firms. The Toronto executive was the driving force behind Griffiths Energy International, a company at the forefront of Chad’s emerging oil and gas industry.

The company has been granted two land concessions in Chad.

The African country’s oil-riches have been relatively undeveloped compared with some of its neighbours, Libya, Sudan and Nigeria.

Jay Park, Griffiths’ lawyer said Friday that the company had announced a new management team on Thursday, four days after its chairman disappeared.
