Arrest warrant issued for man who allegedly shot woman in the face

Toronto police have issued an arrest warrant for Tyler Jacob Cameron, a 20-year-old man who allegedly shot a woman in the face in Rexdale.

Police got a call about a shooting in the Kipling Avenue and John Garland Boulevard area just around 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Later, a woman walked into Etobicoke General Hospital with bullet wounds. She was transferred to a trauma centre for treatment.

At the time, police originally thought it was a drive-by shooting. However, at a news conference on Thursday afternoon, Supt. Ron Taverner said the woman was shot in her friend’s basement on John Garland, but it’s not yet known if it was intentional or accidental.

“We’re not absolutely sure of those facts, but we do know that certainly this woman was struck with a firearm that we allege that Mr. Cameron had and fired,” he said.

Taverner said there were at least four people there at the time.

Cameron is wanted for aggravated assault, discharging a firearm and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

He is five-feet tall and 155 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Police say he may be driving a white 2000 BMW 323, with Ontario licence plate BWKS 218.

“We believe that Mr. Cameron is still armed and to be considered very dangerous,” Taverner said.

The woman remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.
