Eight people have been arrested and charged in connection with what police will only call a “criminal network” working within Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.
The Toronto Airport Drug Enforcement Unit says it has charged eight individuals with drug related offences connected with the importation, exportation and trafficking of ecstasy, cocaine and marijuana.
According to Supt. Ron Allen, seven suspects were employees of the airport and “had access to restricted areas.”
He says another four are also facing theft charges after police allegedly found stolen personal items from luggage and stolen electronics from cargo shipments in their possession.
Allen also suggested that this may not be an isolated group, and that his department is aware of other criminal groups operating from within the airport. As for the arrests made, Allen suggested that multiple levels of American and Canadian law enforcement have been investigating this particular case since April 2006.
Charged in the case are Brampton residents Colin Ried, 46, Basia Feurtado, 38, Patrick Buchanan, 41, Philip Harding, 40, Weston Taylor, 35, Jane Seale, 30, Philip Campbell, 34, Russell Stoney, 50, and Juan Hunt, 39, in addition to Quoc Pham, 44, and Patricia Brandiferri, 31.
