If you’re big on salami now would be a good time to find a new cold cut to favour. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and manufacturer Santa Maria Foods are warning the public that Mastro brand Casalingo Salami may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Food that’s contaminated with the bacteria may not look or smell spoiled but consuming it can cause salmonellosis, an infection with potentially deadly results. Especially at risk are kids, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Salmonellosis can cause short-term symptoms such as high fever; severe headaches, vomiting; nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The affected product was sold in various-sized packages (approx. 454 g) bearing the code 3317A191. The goods were distributed in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and British Columbia.
So far no cases of illness have been reported.
