6-vehicle crash closes WB 401 near Pickering

By News Staff

Provincial police say a six-vehicle crash has closed the Highway 401 WB near Pickering.

Officers were called just after 7 a.m. to the scene just west of Whites Road in the collectors lanes of the 401.

“What appears to have happened right now is we had a single vehicle travelling southbound on Altona Road. That vehicle crossed over Kingston Road, went through a dead end street, launched through a barrier over the ravine down through a line of trees, entered the 401 across that ditch area, came into contact with several vehicles,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt explained.

At least one of the cars rolled over.

Schmidt said two people were to a local hospital. One person is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries. There has been no word on the extent of injuries suffered by the second person.

All the westbound collector lanes of the 401 are closed west of Whites Road.

The re-opening time in unknown.
