Measles case confirmed in Burlington; possible exposure in Toronto

Health officials are issuing a warning after a case of adult measles was confirmed in Burlington.
“With a case of confirmed measles in our community, it’s imperative that residents protect themselves and their community against the increasing risk of infection by ensuring their measles immunization is up to date,” Dr. Hamidah Meghani, Medical Officer of Health for Halton Region, said in a release.
The Halton Regional Health Department said a man was at the Homewood Suites hotel in Burlington between December 13 and 17.
During that time he also went to the Amsterdam BrewsHouse on Queen’s Quay in Toronto (Dec. 16 from 2:20 p.m. to 6 p.m.), the Longos on Wyecroft Road in Oakville, a Burlington Cogeco location and the Outlet Collection in Niagara on the Lake. Exact dates and times are listed below.
Health officials are advising anyone who visited those areas during that time to check their immunization records and make sure you’re had two doses of the measles vaccine.
Infants, pregnant women and people with weakened immune system should contact a health care professional to be assessed.
Measles symptoms can appear up to 21 days after exposure. Those symptoms include a high fever, cold-like symptoms (cough/runny nose); sore eyes or sensitivity to light; small spots with a white centre on the inside of the mouth; and a red rash lasting four to seven days.
