The Stanley Cup Comes Back To Toronto – Sort Of

It may be the only way the Cup ever comes back to Toronto (not counting its home at the Hockey Hall of Fame).

It’s a build-your-own Stanley Cup contest, and it’s sponsored by Scotiabank.

John Doig, Senior VP Marketing, welcomed enthusiasts to Yonge and Dundas Square.

“We’re encouraging people across Canada to sign in to Scotiahockey.com and send their version of the replica cup in.” The website boasts tons of innovate designs, and a few made it to the downtown Toronto showcase.

“We have cheese, we have ice, and we have a green booth that’s building an eco-system cup, which is different,” Doig described.

One contestant described his as “the budget Stanley Cup. It’s students hungry for the cup, it’s in the salary cap era, so everything is built for under $20.”

Another version, constructed completely out of beer bottles, was inspired by “watching the games.”

The winner of the Yonge and Dundas competition garners $500 to donate to a charity of their choice. To find out what the online winner gets, click here.

Just remember – keep it clean. Entries that might be considered offensive, or not in keeping with Scotiabank’s or the NHL’s image, will be disqualified.
