3 Hamilton officers stabbed after responding to ‘person in crisis’ incident

Three Hamilton police officers are being treated for stab wounds after responding to a person in crisis in the city’s downtown core.

Officers were called to the scene near James and Roberts streets just after 3 p.m. to reports of an erratic male with a weapon.

When police arrived, they engaged with the man and an altercation ensued. Three officers were injured in the incident and taken to hospital with stab wounds to the head and neck. All three are in stable condition.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with three counts assault with a weapon. He was taken to hospital to receive medical treatment as well.

A heavy police presence is expected in the area as police continue to investigate.
