Ontario reports 62 new COVID-19 deaths, daily cases top 3,000

Ontario says 62 more people have died from COVID-19 as the number of new cases rises above 3,000 again.
Provincial health officials reported 3,326 new infections on Thursday, a rise from the 2,961 cases reported the previous day.
For only the second time in the last three days, the daily number of people who have recovered from coronavirus (3,593) has surpassed the number of new cases.
Twenty-nine of the 62 new deaths come from long-term settings, according to provincial data. The total number of people who have now died from coronavirus across the province sits at 5,189.
The latest update comes as the province is now under a stay-at-home order, which went into effect 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
Toronto is reporting 968 new cases, which accounts for almost 30 per cent of new infections, while there are 572 new cases in Peel, and 357 in York Region.
The province said 71,169 tests were completed in the last 24-hours, a sharp increase from the previous day and just shy of the all-time high number set last weekend.
The number of hospitalizations (1,657) and patients in the ICU (388) remained relatively unchanged while those on a ventilator has climbed to 280 across the province.
The province says it completed 14,237 vaccinations on Wednesday and has so far administered more than 159,000 doses to date.
