Thousands of bootleg CDs and DVDs have been seized from shops in Chinatown after a major police bust Wednesday.
The probe into the counterfeit discs began earlier this month after several people complained that a store called Music Star was selling pirated material.
A subsequent search warrant on three store locations – all in the Spadina Ave. and Dundas St. West area – led to the seizure of 6,000 DVDs, 2,000 CDs, and equipment used to make the bogus copies.
Investigators said the discs were being sold at a discounted price and weren’t professional quality.
A 50-year-old Markham man, Chi-Loc Ly, has been charged with three counts of fraud over $5,000 and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
Two store employees have also been charged.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Toronto police at 416-808-5206 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
