Fifth Suspect Arrested, One At Large In After-Hours Shooting

Almost three years after he was killed, Peel police have made a fifth arrest in the shooting death of Mervyn “Mikey” Spence.

It’s alleged that on November 4, 2006, Spence had been at an after-hours party at the Malibu Marie Restaurant and Lounge in Brampton, when he became involved in an altercation with several people and was shot in the parking lot.

The 41-year-old was taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Early Saturday morning, officers arrested Everald Oliver “Bats” Brissett at a Mississauga banquet hall. He has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Others arrested so far are Marlan McLean, 27, Courtney Benjamin. 42, Anthony Campbell, 38 and Ervin Anthony Malcolm, 33.

One suspect is still at large – 31-year-old Michael Owen Popert (pictured) of no fixed address. He is wanted for accessory after the fact to murder and is considered armed and dangerous.

He is described as:

  • 5’10”, 145 lbs.
  • Thin build
