There are reports a four-month long strike by DriveTest examiners may be over.
According to several sources, the union representing about 500 employees reached an agreement with DriveTest operator, Serco, on Saturday morning. If employees ratify the deal, full service will resume at driver examination centres across the province on January 5th.
Ontario’s driving examiners walked off the job on August 21 amid demands full-time jobs with benefits be preserved.
Serco operates 55 full-time examination centres in Ontario and 38 part-time locations.
In 2003, after the province decided to privatize its driver examination operations, Serco acquired the right to provide services for the Ministry of Transportation for 10 years.
