‘The Hurt Locker’ Takes Home Best Picture at the Academy Awards

The Oscars made history last night (March 7) by awarding the Best Director statue to Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman to win in the category. Bigelow beat out her ex-husband James Cameron (Avatar), Jason Reitman (Up in the Air), Lee Daniels (Precious), and Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds) for the coveted prize. The Hurt Locker also took home Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing.

Avatar, the film expected to sweep the awards, only earned three accolades — Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects.

In the acting categories, Sandra Bullock picked up Best Actress for The Blind Side and Jeff Bridges won Best Actor for Crazy Heart. Best Supporting Actor went to Inglourious Basterds‘s Christoph Waltz and Best Supporting Actress went to Mo’Nique for Precious. Full list of winners below in the order the awards were handed out.
