TORONTO – Movie makers from Germany, Hungary and South Korea will make up the jury for this year’s Platform program at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Organizers say the jury will include Margarethe von Trotta, who is a prominent director in the New German Cinema movement.
Also on the jury is existential Hungarian auteur Bela Tarr and acclaimed South Korean director Lee Chang-dong.
Now in its fourth year, the Platform program features up to 12 works that have high artistic merit and a strong directorial vision.
The three-member jury will select the best film to win the $25,000 Toronto Platform Prize.
The lineup for this year’s Platform program will be announced on Aug. 7.
The 43rd Toronto International Film Festival runs from Sept. 6-16.
“We are privileged to have a Platform jury that so perfectly embodies the program’s essence,” Piers Handling, director and CEO of TIFF, said Thursday in a statement.
“Our 2018 jurors’ bold and daringly uncompromising artistic visions have not only influenced, but helped mold the next generation of filmmakers. The wealth of experience, passion, and knowledge that they will bring to this year’s edition will be priceless, and exciting to watch this September.”
