Canadian Country Music Awards goes back to Saskatoon in September 2017

SASKATOON – Some of country music’s top artists will be honoured in Saskatoon in 2017.

The Canadian Country Music Awards return to the city for the first time since 2012.

Don Green, president of the Canadian Country Music Association says there were quite a few factors that made Saskatoon the best option.

“It has everything that we need — the venues, the commiuity support, the volunteers and we had such a great time here in 2012, it was an easy choice to come back here in 2017,” he said Thursday.

Saskatchewan’s own Codie Prevost (pre-voh) has been nominated for four CCMA awards in his career, including two in 2012.

He says it would be amazing to win an award in his home province.

“I’ve been watching the Canadian Country Music Awards now since I was about 13 years old and every year I’d sit down with my family while I was growing up and we’d turn on the Canadian Country Music Awards with thoughts of being there one day, maybe be a part of it and to have that come true is really a dream come true,” Prevost said.

The CCMAs are in Halifax this year, and in 2016 they will be in London, Ont.

In 2012, events were all sellouts and the attendance for the award show broke the record by more than two thousand people.

The event is set for Sept. 7 – 10.
