Large number of parents still using second-hand baby items without checking for product recalls, survey finds

Seventy-one per cent of parents in Canada are currently or have once used “hand-me-down” baby products, according to a survey.

The Angus Reid survey finds more than half used the products without first checking to see if the toys or products had been subject to a manufacturer’s recall.

The survey finds 30 per cent of those asked were not aware that baby walkers are now banned in Canada. Twenty per cent didn’t know car seats have expiry dates.

Toys R Us is offering parents a discount off the purchase of a new baby item for the next two weeks if they bring in a used crib, stroller, car seat or travel system to their local store.
