Mothers having more than one baby after age 35: U.S. stats

It’s already well known that more women are putting off having children until their careers are established, but new data shows even more women are having their first baby at age 35 and then continue to have more children.

The U.S. Center for Health Statistics reported among all women whose first child was born between age 35 and 44, nearly 40 per cent had at least two children between 2006 and 2010, up from 26 per cent recorded in 1995.

The study showed women are also having their children fairly close together, with 16 per cent of women between 30 and 44 having their first and second babies less than two years apart, while 17 per cent reported having the children less than three years apart.
