TORONTO, Ont. – Residents of three Toronto condo towers have been sent letters telling them a protective mesh will be installed on their glass balconies.
The condo developer uses the same glass supplier that was used in a number of condos that had their balcony glass explode and fall to the ground last summer.
The Toronto Star reports that residents at Parade at CityPlace, near Front Street and Spadina Avenue, and Discovery I and II, on Sheppard Avenue East, have been notified of the installation.
The developer stated that, although there is no evidence that any of the glass is deficient, based on previous problems at other condos they did not want to take any chances.
Engineers, architects and glass experts have all been recruited to explore the problem, according to the developer.
