Two men accused of defrauding York University of around $1.2M

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have charged two York University employees with defrauding the school of around $1.2-million.

Police said the investigation ran from May 2007 to April 2010.

One of the men charged worked as the assistant vice-president of campus services and business operations, while the other was the director of maintenance.

Police said the university was billed for goods and services that were either in excess of fair market value or that it didn’t receive at all.  

Markicevic, 53, has been charged with two counts of fraud and one charge of laundering proceeds of crime.

Philip Brown, of Stouffville, 46, has been charged with one count of fraud and one charge of laundering proceeds of crime.

Both accused are scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on July 18.
