40th anniversary of Earth Day

TORONTO, Ont. – It’s been 40 years since the first Earth Day was marked, and well, things have certainly changed.
From garbage collection and using environmentally-friendly products, to driving a fuel-efficient or even a hybrid car, every part of life has turned more green.
Earth Day events will be held in 190 countries.

Other events in Toronto include:
- CN Tower – Activities include tree planting and dancing; the tower will glow green at dusk

With all the natural disasters already this year — mostly earthquakes, and now that volcano still erupting in Iceland — many are wondering if the earth is angry at its residents.
“What I think Mother Nature has shown to us is that we’re more vulnerable to nature, to geophysical events to weather events than we ever have before,” Environment Canada senior climatologist Dave Phillips told 680News.
But, George Kourounis, a well-known storm chaser and host of the TV show, “Angry Planet” on OLN, said although it’s hard to believe, these things are not all related.
