Toronto elementary school shut down due to 13 cases of COVID-19

An elementary school in Toronto’s east end has been temporarily shut down after 13 students and staff tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the latest data, 11 students and two staff members at Precious Blood Catholic School in the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) have tested positive for the virus from November 1 to November 7.

“Due to an ongoing COVID-19 investigation, TPH is recommending that students at Precious Blood Catholic School be temporarily dismissed from in-person school and activities starting Monday, November 8,” Toronto Public Health (TPH) said in a tweet on Sunday.

The board said it has “notified close contacts and ask them to stay home, monitor for symptoms and get tested. We’ll work closely with our school partners to determine when in-person learning will resume.”

As of Sunday evening, the TCDSB has 41 active cases of COVID-19 among students and four cases among staff. In total, there are 18 schools with active cases.

Based on TPH’s update on Friday, 13 schools across the city have an active outbreak of COVID-19.
