Peel hosting two more ‘Doses After Dark’ events

With many provincial COVID-19 restrictions set to be lifted on Monday, health officials in Peel Region are trying to make it easier to get vaccinated against the virus by hosting two off-hours clinics.

“As we reopen, as we see more contacts out there, the evidence is clear that two doses are good but three doses are way better at making sure that you can be protected against the circulating string of Omicron,” said Dr. Lawrence Low, Medical Officer of Health for Peel Region.

The ‘Doses After Dark’ events will be held on February 5 at the Save Max Sports Centre in Brampton and February 12 at Rockwood Mall in Mississauga, with clinics operating from 1 p.m. until midnight.

The late-night event has already been run twice in Peel Region with great success, providing access to those who can’t get to a vaccination centre during daytime hours.

“It’s essential workers, it’s people who work odd hours, it’s people who maybe have difficulty with childcare, have trouble finding time to bring the whole family in,” said Loh. “The aim is to really provide as much convenience as possible for people into those later evening hours on those Saturdays.”

“We want to make sure that there is no one who doesn’t have the opportunity to get vaccinated who wants to get vaccinated,” added Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.

First, second and third doses will be available at the both clinics, which will also feature special guests and events to enhance the atmosphere. Appointments can be made through the province’s online portal.

The events come as Peel Region marks a milestone, with 90 per cent of those age 18 and up having received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Loh says third dose coverage within the broader community is currently hovering at around 40 per cent.
