Suspect wanted in serious sexual assault in Hamilton

Hamilton police are looking for a suspect wanted in connection with a serious sexual assault that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

Early Monday morning around 3 a.m., officers were flagged down by a witness in the area of Barton Street East. A woman had been found seriously assaulted in a nearby alleyway.

The 46-year-old victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition where she remains.

Investigators determined the assault had a sexual component and are treating the incident as a sexual assault.

The suspect is described as a young Black male, described as tall with short, braided hair, and wearing a black and white track suit. He’s believed to have fled on foot westbound on Barton Street East.

A photo of the suspect has been released.

Police will be in the area for the majority of the day canvassing for witnesses and video footage.
