Man, 21, charged in sexual assault of 15-year-old girl in Scarborough

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault against a 15-year-old girl.

Toronto police say the suspect engaged in an online conversation through a social media platform with the teen. Then, at around 5 a.m. on January 26, 2022, the girl left her home in Scarborough and met up with the man, who she believed was 17-years-old.

The girl got into his car and was provided with alcohol. She alleges she was then sexually assaulted by the man before he dropped her off at her home and drove away.

Police say the suspect was identified to them by York Regional Police in September 2022 after he was arrested for a similar offence.

Abikesh Sorupanathan has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

A photo of the suspect has been released as investigators believe there may be other victims and they are asking them to come forward with any additional information.
