Two 22-year-olds from Toronto were arrested and charged after police discovered firearms and drugs during a traffic stop in Richmond Hill.

York Regional Police stopped a vehicle on Dec. 30 just after 1:30 a.m. in the Elgin Mills Road and Yonge Street area. Two occupants were in the car at the time.

Officers first investigated the driver and located marijuana before discovering two handguns — one loaded and unloaded — along with cocaine and cash.

Search warrants were carried out at the suspects’ home in Toronto, along with a separate vehicle linked to the pair, where loaded ammunition was located.

Jarra Shifara and Cash Dillon, both 22 and from Toronto, face several charges, including possession of a prohibited firearm and possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, among other offences.

In a news release, York police Const. Maniva Armstrong said investigators are determined to “combat the distribution of opioids in our community.”
