59-year-old man killed in Etobicoke hit-and-run; photo of vehicle released

A man is dead and a suspect vehicle is being sought after a hit-and-run in south Etobicoke. Carl Hanstke reports from the scene.

A 59-year-old man is dead and a suspect vehicle is being sought after a hit-and-run in south Etobicoke on Wednesday evening.

Police responded to a collision at Lake Shore Boulevard West and Second Street, east of Islington Avenue, around 5:10 p.m.

A pedestrian was located at the scene with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital where he later died.

Police say the victim was crossing Second Street on the north side of Lake Shore when a westbound pickup truck made a right turn and struck him.

The driver fled the scene before officers arrived.

Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a black Ford F-150 with “shiny” rims. They have since released a photo of the pickup truck.

The incident is Toronto’s first traffic fatality of the year.

A total of five pedestrians were struck by vehicles in the city on Wednesday.

Three people were taken to hospital, one with critical injuries, after being struck by a vehicle at Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East in North York.

Later in the evening, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Steeles Avenue East.
