TTC seeks public input on proposed transit changes along busy Jane St. bus routes
Posted March 2, 2023 12:38 pm.
The TTC is considering a variety of options to alleviate crowding and travel times on buses along a busy stretch of Jane Street and it’s seeking input from the people who know best — riders.
The TTC says the stretch of Jane Street from Steeles Avenue West to Eglinton Avenue West has “been prioritized for the installation of transit priority solutions due to its high ridership, long travel times and its important role in connecting Line 1 Yonge-University (at Pioneer Village Station) and the future Line 5 Eglinton (at Mount Dennis Station).”
The proposed RapidTO solutions range from minor road and public transit changes to the installation of priority bus lanes, HOV lanes and queue jump lanes at key intersections.
All of the proposed changes involve removal of some bus stops along the route, with various projected effects on travel times.
You can see the options here and complete a survey on the proposed changes here.
“RapidTO will help customers travel more quickly and efficiently, and I look forward to seeing the recommendations that come out of this public consultation process,” TTC Chair Jon Burnside said in a release.
“I encourage everyone who uses this stretch of Jane Street to provide their input so that we can make sure that all voices and opinions are heard.”
The TTC says the 35 Jane and 935 Jane bus routes along the stretch are “among the TTC’s most heavily used.”
Around 43,000 TTC customers use the TTC on Jane Street on an average weekday, but riding public transit on Jane Street takes 66 per cent longer than driving, the TTC notes on its website.
“I really want to encourage all our customers, especially those who use the 35 Jane route, to participate in this survey,” said TTC CEO, Rick Leary.
“Customer feedback is so important in finding effective transit solutions. We want to hear from transit users, drivers and others who use the roadway, to ensure that our services are meeting the needs of the neighbourhood.”
After picking a preferred design option in mid-2023, the TTC says a report will head to council late in the year, with the project being delivered sometime in 2024, or beyond.
