Durham police make hundreds of arrests in weeks-long hunt of outstanding suspects

Durham Regional Police say they arrested 221 people and laid 757 charges in a weeks-long project aimed at rounding up individuals wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.

Throughout Project Tundra — which spanned seven weeks — police executed 434 arrest warrants for alleged offences that occurred in Durham Region, ranging from things like failing to show up to court to more serious charges like sexual assault and aggravated assault.

The project took place between January and March 2023, with Durham police travelling across Southern Ontario to locate and arrest individuals.

In one instance, police say they tracked down a sexual assault suspect who had legally changed his name following the alleged crime.

Peter Lucifora, 57, of Oshawa, was wanted for an alleged sexual assault that occurred between 2007 and 2008. While trying to track him down, police say they discovered that he had changed his name to Peter Haufe.

He was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
