Several people in Toronto defrauded in apartment rental scam, man wanted

Toronto police are searching for a man that may be known under multiple aliases as part of an ongoing rental scam that has left several people defrauded.
Investigators say that between November 2022 and February 2023, a man falsely advertised unauthorized apartments for rent in Toronto on various websites.
They identified this man as 49-year-old Cem Devrim Turetken, who has been using numerous aliases and different company names, including Smart Rental Property Management Inc., located in Sudbury, Ont., and GTA Rentals.

Police say several victims have been defrauded, and investigators believe this scam may have affected more people.
Authorities are urging anyone seeking out an apartment or property in Toronto and across the GTA to do research in person, double-check the address to ensure it isn’t being listed elsewhere, and never pay with cash, wire transfer or hard-to-trace equivalents, such as MoneyGram or bitcoin.
