2 men charged following demonstration in Toronto

Toronto police arrested and charged two men following a demonstration on Sunday.

Police say they were attending the demonstration in the Balmoral Avenue and Yonge Street area.

Allegedly, one man was seen entering the crowd and yelling hate-motivated slurs at demonstrators and then pushing a victim, causing the victim to fall backwards.

Police took the accused into custody and he resisted arrest, and he was found to have a knife in his possession.

Stephen Swail, 30, of Toronto, has been charged with assault, assault with intent to resist arrest, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 3, 2024.

Authorities also arrested 25-year-old Sodapop Liptrott of Toronto after officers received reports that he was carrying a concealed weapon. A large knife was later discovered in his possession, police said. No injuries were reported.

Liptrott was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and is scheduled to appear in court on May 2, 2024.
