York Regional Police are investigating after a 44-year-old man was killed in a targeted shooting in Markham Saturday night.
Officers say they responded to a weapons call just after 6:30 p.m. at a home on Hepburn Street, near 14th Avenue and McCowan Road.
Upon arrival, police located a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the driveway of the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified the victim Sunday as Partheepan Panchalingam of Markham.
Investigators say they are searching for at least one suspect, last seen wearing dark clothing, as well as a white SUV that was also in the area at the time of the shooting.
Police say Panchalingam was known to police but would not elaborate any further nor would they confirm if he had any connection to the tow truck industry.
“Any small piece of information about this individual or his dealings is all pieces of the investigation that we would put together to try and figure out a motive for this and why he was shot in his driveway,” said Cst. Lisa Moskaluk in an update on Sunday.
Moskaluk added they are not aware that this shooting is connected to any other incidents in and around York Region.
