1 dead, 5 injured after ‘violent’ two-car collision in Brampton

One man is dead and five others injured in what police say was a “violent” crash involving two vehicles early Sunday morning.

Peel police say a van was travelling westbound on Steeles Avenue and was attempting a left-hand turn onto Finch Avenue at Gorewood Drive when a crash with an Audi going eastbound on Steeles Avenue occurred.

The male passenger in the van was pronounced dead at the scene while the female driver of the van was transported to a trauma centre in critical condition.

The four occupants of the Audi were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police say they are looking at several factors that may have led up to the crash including speed and possibly street racing.

“We are aware of potential links between street racing in that area and we are trying to determine if this was linked to this fatal collision, but right now it’s too early for us to rule anything out,” said Cst. Moulika Sharma.

Sharma would not say if charges are pending against any of the drivers as the investigation is ongoing.
