Man arrested in New Year’s Eve fatal shooting in Oshawa

A man wanted for murder in a shooting that occurred on New Year’s Eve in Oshawa has been arrested, police say.
Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said officers were called to 1040 Cedar St., an apartment building, at around 2 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2024, to investigate reports of an armed person.
Officers arrived and located a man shot inside the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Dennis Binda of Oshawa.
On Monday, authorities issued an arrest warrant for 44-year-old Michael Mills of no fixed address.
In an update, police said Mills was located in the area of Dryden Boulevard and Thickson Road in Whitby on Wednesday and taken into custody.
Mills has been charged with second-degree and is being held for a bail hearing.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact DRPS. The fatal shooting was Durham Region’s 11th homicide of 2024.
