WINNIPEG — The anchor of Winnipeg’s defensive line will return for another season with the CFL club.

The Blue Bombers announced Wednesday that defensive tackle Doug Brown has re-signed with the team for the 2011 campaign.

“We’re very happy to have Doug back for another season,” head coach Paul LaPolice said in a release. “Not only can he still produce on the field but his leadership in our locker-room is something that you can’t replace.

“He is a consummate professional and a player our young guys look up to.”

Brown, a 36-year-old native of New Westminster, B.C., was the team’s most outstanding Canadian for the past five years. The seven-time CFL all-star won the league award for top Canadian in 2001.

Brown had 49 tackles, five sacks and one fumble recovery last season.

Over 10 CFL seasons — all with the Bombers — he has 397 tackles, 11 fumble recoveries, nine forced fumbles and 49 sacks.
