Police say they recovered a man’s body from Lake Ontario in the east end of the city on Saturday.
The marine unit and Toronto Fire were called to an area near the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, near Queen Street East and Victoria Park Avenue, around 12:30 p.m.
A bystander said his friend witnessed the man go under and called 911.
“(The man) comes down every day … and he swims every day regardless of the weather conditions,” Anson said. “He spends hours out there.
“I think it was just too strong for him.”
Police are still investigating, but say the death does not appear suspicious.
