Durham Police Cruiser Rammed

A Durham police officer is lucky to be in all in one piece Thursday morning after an overnight confrontation during a traffic stop.

Undercover officers were looking into reports of a stolen car at about 1:30am near the intersection of Port Union Rd. and Kingston Rd.

When they stopped the suspect vehicle just east of Toronto to ask the driver some questions, the situation took a dangerous turn.

The car’s driver reportedly hit the gas and rammed into the police cruiser. They then tried to run down one of the officers but missed.

Unconfirmed reports suggest officers fired three shots at the suspects, but area hospitals haven’t treated anyone for gunshot wounds.

Police are now looking for suspects in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
