Orioles Decimate The Jays 15-0

For the second straight night the Orioles carved out a comfortable lead for themselves early in the game and had no trouble maintaining their advantage.

The Orioles crushed the Jays 15-0 Saturday night at Camden Yards in a game that saw seven players cross home plate in the first inning alone. Baltimore battered the blue birds 7-2 Friday.

“It was similar to what happened last night,” Toronto manager John Gibbons said. “It was just too much to overcome.”

It was a tough night on the mound, to say the least, for starter Shaun Marcum. Nick Markakis kicked off the early hitting streak when he smacked one out of the park over right field – his eighth homer of the year.

Melvin Mora walked and later scored on a double, Jay Gibbons received an intentional walk and Jeff Conine loaded the bases with an infield hit.

Corey Patterson drove a man home on a single and Kevin Millar cleared the bases with a double.

The O’s managed to add one more run in the first.

The Jays only managed to keep the Baltimore bats quiet until the fifth when Marcum was finally pulled.

“I just wasn’t locating pitches in the first inning. They were hitting everything, no matter if they were hard or soft, they were finding some holes and gaps,” Marcum said.

None of the Blue Jays managed more than one hit allowing Baltimore hurler Daniel Cabrera to earn his second career shutout.

“A shutout, that’s the best thing a pitcher can do. That’s a perfect game for me,” he said. “Every pitcher wants to throw a shutout.”

The Orioles became the last major league team this season to win a fourth straight game Saturday.

“Hey, it’s only August. It’s not that big a deal,” Baltimore manager Sam Perlozzo said.
