League Leading Tigers Edge Jays

The Detroit Tigers maintained their one-game lead in the AL Central with a narrow 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.

Placido Polanco drove in three runs and Jeremy Bonderman pitched six solid innings to help the Tigers win their eighth game in 11 tries.  The victory kept them tied with the Yankees for the American League’s best record.

The Tigers jumped ahead 4-1 in the sixth inning before the Jays fashioned a rally in the seventh, bringing the game to within one run.  That’s as far as they would get, however, as the Tigers utilized their bullpen to preserve the lead.

Bonderman won his third straight start after going 0-4 in his previous nine outings.

Rookies Andrew Miller and Joel Zumaya combined to pitch the seventh while Fernando Rodney came in for the eighth and Todd Jones closed for his 37th save.
