The Toronto Raptors snapped a six-game losing streak with a 95-87 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
“We needed it,” said Chris Bosh, who led the Raptor charge with 25 points and 14 rebounds. “We had our little road woes on the West Coast, but we wanted to come here and establish a tempo for ourselves, protect our home court and just get the monkey off our back.”
Joey Graham added 16 points for Toronto.
“I’m more proud of those guys in the locker-room, they earned it, they went out and fought hard tonight, they stayed together,” remarked Raptors coach Sam Mitchell.
“These players pull for one another, they understand it’s a long season and the reason we were 2-8, it wasn’t one person, or one thing, it was a combination of things.”
Cleveland star LeBron James had 30 points and 10 boards to top the Cavs.
The game marked the Raptors’ first game back at the Air Canada Centre following a winless road trip that threatened to wreak havoc on the team’s confidence.
The win couldn’t have come at a better time.
“We were coming in here with a six-game slide, and we were really looking forward to coming back home after losing one to Utah the other day, so this was really important for us,” said Bosh.
“We played like it was important. Down the stretch of the game, we made the right plays, we made the right people shoot the ball and we got rebounds.”
The game also marked the end Morris Peterson’s incredible streak.
Peterson, who missed the game with a slight tear in a tendon in his left elbow, ended his NBA ironman streak at 371 games.
