They’ve never been able to make a better mousetrap – can they really make money by growing a better lawn? Someone’s not only tried, they’ve succeeded. Welcome to Eco-Lawn, a new kind of grass that never needs watering, stays green in the worst droughts, and doesn’t require any fertilizer. Better yet, you don’t have to mow it.
After years of trying to get something – anything – to grow in their clay, loam and sand filled front yard, Janet Bailey and her husband finally decided to give the new fangled frontage a chance. “It looked horrible,” she claims of her old non-grass. “It’s the first thing people see.”
They put Eco-Lawn in place and now they have some lush greenery that didn’t cost much and needs almost no maintenance. “You don’t see many weeds in here and now it’s starting to thicken up us as well, so it’s beautiful, it’s easy and it’s environmental,” points out homeowner Heino Claessens.
The miracle grower is put out by Wild Flower Farm, which developed the product based on a need. “It grows well under pine trees, it grows well in clay soils and it has deep roots.”
The only place it won’t grow is where there are swamps and beach sand. But if you really want a lawn in either of those two places, perhaps you really don’t need one. The average lawn needs about two five pound bags, and each one costs $30. It’s a lot less than a gardener.
The company has a website for ordering while Consumer Specialist Jee-Yun Lee’s blog brings you everything else you need to know about the product.
